Derbyshire Place community garden is a collaborative green space in which the participants share in both the garden’s maintenance and its rewards. The Derbyshire Place Community Garden will be an oasis of beauty and healthy living. Neighbors, children, and local schools will cultivate garden plots together, providing fellowship, learning, self reliance and healthier eating opportunities. The goal of the Derbyshire Place Community Garden is to connect this community to fresh fruits and vegetables and to each other. The Derbyshire Place Community Garden will improve the physical health of community members by increasing the accessibility of fruits and vegetables as well as by providing outdoor exercise, and education on nutrition and food preparation. The Derbyshire Place Community Garden will improve this community socially by bridging the inter-generational gap between seniors and the youth of this neighborhood. The Garden will also provide an opportunity for this community to grow its own food and to provide fresh food for the disadvantaged. Most importantly the Derbyshire Place Community Garden will enhance multi-racial, multi -cultural, and multi-generational diversity as people work together to revitalize this community. Community gardening is fun, reduces stress, and promotes health and fitness.
